You're way tougher and stronger than you think you are.

I'm serious!

You can find out how by challenging yourself this summer. How, you say? Join one or create one for yourself!

I surprised myself this year on Memorial Day. I took part in The Murph Challenge. I trained for about six weeks, did a few trial runs, and then did the event on Memorial Day and surprised myself! I finished below my goal time by 20 minutes!

When you challenge yourself beyond your known abilities, it can be scary and intimidating but also REWARDING!! At the finish, the accomplishment you feel can't compare to anything!

Start with something like registering for a 5k or another type of fitness challenge that you think you could do and is a bit of a stretch. Once you register, you've committed yourself, and then it is time to commit to the training and preparing phase.

Here are some incremental steps you can take to start your challenge:

  1. Find an event and register for it

Events are going on all the time! Google "fitness events this summer near me" and find one that speaks to you and makes you look twice! Find one that is a step out of your comfort zone. Now you're officially committed. When you put money into an event, you've got some skin in the game and will feel motivated to go for the training phase! Why couldn't you challenge yourself? I guess you could, but I can guarantee that when you invest in something, you are WAY MORE LIKELY to follow through! When was the last time you followed through on a stretch goal without accountability?

2. Find a training plan that looks doable and achievable

Now starts the training phase! You can find programs online that are both paid and free. Make sure your plan will work with your schedule, and you can fit in the sessions each week and keep track of your progress. Keeping track of your progress will help motivate you to continue your training as you see yourself getting conditioned for the big event!

3. Do your best!

When the event day arrives, give it your best shot! No matter what your time is, put your best effort in! All that training will have paid off.

4. CELEBRATE YOUR ACCOMPLISHMENT!

When you rock the event, do your victory lap! Feel the joy of following through and giving the event your best energy and effort! You will feel amazing! Celebrate with something you love and enjoy and that you well earned!

So find a way to challenge yourself this summer and see what you can do. Please share with me what event you decide to register for, and ROCK IT OUT!!!
